Hello, I am having an issue with communicating my instruments.

I have a KCPI 488A GPIB card and GPIB 488 driver installed on my system. (I also have NI software installed on the system)

I tried to run test with GPIB Diagnosis but it gives Entry point error saying
"_ni488config_UnlockNI488@Config@0 could not be located at the dynamic link library C\Windows\System32\gpib-32.dll"

** I use LabView to communicate with the instruments. This same configuration has been working fine for last two years. A few days back i connected a tektronics funciton generator and communicated with it via labview. It worked fine. But after that this issue came up. I dont know if these are related but just stating in case they are.

** please look at the attachments

Please help !!

Thank you

Check your gpib-32.dll properties. Is it from NI or Keithley or possibly CEC?

My guess is that something installed the NI driver for GPIB. And it over-wrote the required version of that DLL needed by the KPCI-488A card.
Can you reinstall the driver for KPCI-488A?

Thank you Andrea for your response. Yes NI driver was previously installed but was uninstalled later. Some other NI Softwares were installed were still installed on the system. So i unistalled all of them and deleted gpib32.dll and gpibconfig.dll files from System32 and SysWOW64 as these were from National Instruments. Then I reinstalled GPIB 488 driver from Keithley. Now the diagnostic test runs fine.

But my goal is to work with LabView. So i will have to install NI Software at some point. Should I install NI Software or will i face the same issue again ?

Thank you

When you run into the trouble, find the gpib related DLL and right click to see properties; namely the author/publisher.

You can have LabVIEW and other NI software (VISA) installed. Just don’t let the NI support for GPIB cards install, else it will overwrite the DLLs that need to be for your KPCI488-488A gpib interface card.
One strategy would be to install KPCI488-488A driver after other NI related software is installed.
