Can you tell me what is the average power consumption of the MSO58 when it is in standby mode?

Since we don’t spec this, I measured it myself with a power analyzer (PA1000) using a 1 GHz MSO58. This should be taken with a grain of salt as this equipment wasn’t recently calibrated. But, I’d say give this about a ±3% error for the resulting values.

I was getting an average of about 6.4 Watts in standby mode, with peaks of 7.5 Watts, and lower end of 5.3 Watts. The power factor was jumping around a bit in standby mode.

While powered on, I was getting an average of 178 Watts in standby mode with some measurements on the display. I saw peaks of 220W during power up.

One thing if forgot to mention is, this was done with no active probes attached to the input channels. Some Hall-effect current probes can take in about 8 watts each. Attach a few of these to the scope and it’ll definitely change the results. Most active voltage probes require under 2 watts.

I also took a measurement on the 2 GHz model as it has different front-end hardware so I thought that would make a small difference. To my surprise it made a fairly significant difference.

I was getting an average of 228 Watts of power with no active probes connected. The TPP1000 passive probes that come with the scope make a negligible difference when connected.
