Greetings-
I am trying to find out what the meaning of the measurement statistics is for "RMS" (entire waveform) in the display panel.   My understanding is that RMS (the root of the mean of the squares) is a number calculated from the entire waveform.   How can you have a mean, min, max, and Std deviation of a single number?  Wouldn't all those (except Std Dev) be the same since the result of RMS is a single number?  See attached image.

I have seen others ask this question and some speculation on what they are:
https://www.edaboard.com/threads/tektronix-4000-series-oscilloscopes-question-about-measurements-and-statistics.381656/

But it would be nice to see some documentation on what the firmware is really doing and what meaning those numbers have.
Thank you,
Dave

Hi David,

the statistics are calculated over multiple acquisitions. let's say you acquire 1000 waveforms.
so you will see
the average values of the 1000 RMS values
the stddev based on the 1000 RMS values
the peak RMS value among the 1000 calculated
etc

the RMS value is unique with no statistics if you do a single shot acquisition.
