I would like to be able to setup a RS-485 bus decode for my oscilloscope. I see videos online for setting up the decode functionality for RS-232, but for my application I need to be able todo so for 485. I would like to know both the physical connection setup needed to hook up the oscilloscope to read properly, and the steps necessary to configure bus decode on the device.

Hello,

For RS-485 you will likely want a differential probe such as the TDP0500: https://www.tek.com/en/datasheet/1-ghz-and-500-mhz-high-voltage-differential-probes

As always, look through the datasheet and make sure that the TDP0500 will work for your specific bus differential and common mode voltages. The bus setup on-scope will be very similar to the RS-232 setup, but with different voltage thresholds. Other parameters in the bus decode menu on the scope are not necessarily standardized, so you will need to know what your specific RS485 bus is in order to select the correct settings.
