Hi,
I need help with generating a chirp signal in AFG31000. I succeeded to generate up-chirp by choosing sweep mode, and frequency start that smaller than the frequency stop, and sweep time. but I don't understand how to create a down- chirp and up-down chirp / down-up chirp.
Can someone help and give me some guidance please?
Thanks in advance!
Avital

Hello Avital,

You can adjust if the sweep increases or decreases in frequency by changing if the start or stop frequency is higher.

Additionally, by setting the sweep return time you can set the instrument to perform an up-down or down-up sweep.  I have included some examples below.

Down Sweep:
Start: 6MHz
Stop: 4MHz
Sweep Time: 100mS
Return: 0S

Up Sweep:
Start: 4MHz
Stop: 6MHz
Sweep Time: 100mS
Return: 0S

Up followed by Down Sweep (relative to trigger output)
Start: 4MHz
Stop: 6MHz
Sweep Time: 100mS
Return: 100mS

Down followed by Up Sweep (relative to trigger output)
Start: 6MHz
Stop: 4MHz
Sweep Time: 100mS
Return: 100mS

Hi Avital,

In addition to what Daniel said, you can also:
1) If your chirp width is 2 MHz or less, you can use the Modulation mode with FM to do complex chirps as you wish.
2) use ArbBuilder, ArbExpress or your own script to create arbitrary waveforms.
