I plan to use the MSO54B Scope with TPP1000 1GHz probe.

Since the TPP1000 is a 10MΩ passive probe, my guess is that the MSO54B Scope must be set to be in “1MΩ input mode”.
Is that correct?

Then if MSO54B is set to 1MΩ input, the BW of the MSO54B itself is limited to only 500MHz (spec sheet of MSO54B above page 37 at bottom says).

So I don’t understand how can I get the full 1GHz BW of the TPP1000. What oscilloscope should I use instead?

Please help me figure this out. Thank you.

Hello,

This is because the TPP1000 does not use the 1MOhm path, instead it uses a 250kOhm termination.  The termination resistance is also automatically set by the scope when you connect the probe.  For more details about this 250kOhm path see the following FAQ:

Why isn’t the TPP1000 (Tektronix Passive Probe 1GHz) compatible with my scope? | Tektronix

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your comment.

I am needing to take the waveform of a 1ns square pulse width.
I have MSO54B scope.

The TPP1000 has a 3.9pF probe tip input capacitance and I am afraid that might be loading and filtering down my 1ns pulse.

What probe might be better than can work with MSO54B to measure the 1ns square pulse?

Thank you.
